Belize
While in Belize I had the opportunity to read with Belizian children. During one interaction I created a recording of a child reading a book and then I played the recording back to her. She not only was excited to read for me, but she enjoyed listening to a recording of her reading. By recording student's voices during a reading activity, we enable them to hear what they sound like while reading. This is an effective method for teaching students the importance of using correct fluency. Strong fluency skills aid in the comprehension of text.
"When readers read with intonation and phrasing, they understand what the author was intending to convey, and say it the way the author intended that it be said." (Duffy, 2009, 229).
A little later, while I was reading a book to her and a few of her friends, she interrupted my reading and asked me to record my voice. I found this activity motivated them to read and listen to me read as well.
